Experience the thrill of staying in a mobile camp that moves around Akagera National Park, Central Africa’s largest protected wetland. Built with eco-friendly materials, Karenge Camp offers an uncrowded camping experience year-round, excluding April. The area in which this camp was set up originally is referred to as Karenge, which translates to ‘small footprint’ in the local Kinyarwanda language. This name also reflects their dedication to managing their environmental impact. Guests can observe a variety of animals, including primates, predators and antelopes as well as around 500 different bird species while engaging in day or night game drives, or when taking a boat ride on Lake Ihema to search for water species. Meals are included and served in the dining tent.
The 6 raised Canvas Tents each come with 2 camp beds with bedding, camp chairs, reed mat floors, and solar lighting. Each tent is also equipped with a private outdoor bathroom, including a bucket shower, a toilet, and a canvas basin, with warm water supplied daily.
